I have been building software for over 13 years. I started with vocational training as a systems IT specialist at Berlin's public transport operator. Today I run Bosnar GmbH and mostly work on what hurts most in grown system landscapes: sign-in, permissions, and integrating services that were never meant for each other.
Bosnar GmbH is not an agency with departments. It is the corporate form for what I do. Whoever gets in touch here talks to the person who then does the work.
What sets me apart from a pure contract developer is the responsibility I carry over years. Some systems have been in my care for more than a decade. That changes how you write software: you build differently when you know that in five years you will be the one making the change.

Senior software engineer
Over two years I replaced the front end of an internal application that was in daily use. The replacement reversed direction halfway through: first the new ran embedded inside the old, and once the new share prevailed, the relationship was inverted. There was no cutover date and no feature freeze, and new features kept being built throughout the whole rebuild.

Senior software engineer, full-stack
A 3D viewer was to become more than a way of looking at shapes: it was to become the entry point into the parts data. Since then a click on a visible component leads to stock levels, sources of supply, and the question of which other products the same part is built into, which is what decides whether it is reused or procured anew. The mapping from click to component is calculated across every zoom level rather than maintained in a table, and connecting the data sources was the means to that end, not the subject.

I joined as a Senior Front End Web Engineer. After a while I was promoted to Software Engineering Manager and took on responsibility for a team of three developers.
The experience from these projects is what I bring to the work of Bosnar GmbH today.

The tool is not what makes the difference. Verification is. While building this site, the tool overstated my contribution to a ten year project by a factor of three. If you do not check output like that against reality, you publish it. Every claim on this site is therefore backed by evidence, and every architectural decision and published statement is mine.
Every piece of software has places where it cannot do what is expected of it. An operation with a window in which it can fail. A check that is not complete. A function that is supposed to return a number and in certain cases had better not.
I write those places down, right where they are, with the reason and with what to do if the case occurs. That costs a few minutes while building and saves hours for whoever looks at it next, even when that is me.
The other way is more common: the place is quietly caught, and in production nobody knows any more what they can rely on.
A missing figure is therefore preferable to a wrong one, and a named residual risk preferable to a hidden one.
Every organisation has rules nobody ever wrote down. Which entry is mandatory when a particular case applies. When a deadline starts running. What a job may cost before somebody has to ask. Rules like these tend to live in individual heads, and you find out only when that person is on holiday or leaves the company.
I build those rules into the system, in one place and in a form that can be checked. Not as a note beside the field, but as a condition the system knows about, one that makes a change stand out immediately. It costs more time at the start, because the rule has to be stated precisely first. Doing that regularly reveals that two people had it differently in mind. That is exactly the gain: the clarification happens before the building rather than afterwards in daily use.
People doing the work should be able to do it without knowing the last ten years of exceptions by heart.
