Domain Tips: How to Find the Right Web Address

Your domain is your address on the internet. We explain what to look for and which mistakes to avoid.

Domain Technik Einsteiger

Your domain is the first thing customers see of your business. A bad domain choice is nearly impossible to fix later because it gets printed on business cards, indexed by Google, and stored in your customers' heads.

What Is a Domain?

A domain is your website's name, for example bosnar.gmbh or your-business.com. It's entered in the browser's address bar and takes visitors directly to your site. It is also the basis for your professional email address.

Which Extension Fits?

The most well-known extension in Germany is .de. Customers expect it and trust it. For most businesses, it's the best choice.

Other options:

  • .de is the standard for German businesses
  • .com works well if you operate internationally
  • .gmbh or .berlin can make sense if they fit your business
  • Avoid exotic extensions like .xyz or .info. They look untrustworthy and scare off customers.

Tips for a Good Domain Name

  • Short and memorable (maximum 15 characters)
  • Easy to spell and pronounce
  • No hyphens if possible
  • No numbers (unless they're part of the company name)
  • The company name is almost always the best choice

Common Mistakes

  • Domains that are too long with multiple hyphens (best-painter-smith-berlin.com)
  • Domains with spelling errors
  • Domains easily confused with others
  • Registering domains with providers who won't release them. This happens more often than you'd think. Check upfront whether you can take the domain with you if you switch providers.

Domain and Email Go Together

With your own domain, you also get a professional email address: info@your-business.com instead of businessname123@gmail.com. This looks more trustworthy and strengthens your brand.

Secure Your Domain

At Bosnar, domain registration is part of our hosting package. We advise you on the choice, register the domain, and set everything up. The domain belongs to you. Get in touch, and we'll find the right domain for your business together.
