The situation
Uwe Mangold runs an architecture practice in Falkensee, focused on new build, building within existing fabric, and heritage conservation. An architecture practice is judged by its buildings, not by service descriptions. So the task was not a website in the usual sense but a catalogue of works: preparing images and project texts so the work speaks for itself, in two languages, with its own page for each project.
The solution
I curated thirteen projects instead of listing everything, because a catalogue containing everything says nothing. Each project carries eighteen maintained fields, from location and category through the HOAI work stages to a description running over several paragraphs. Every single image has its own alternative text, written rather than generated, because an image gallery without alternative texts is simply empty for part of the audience. Overview, detail pages, navigation and sitemap all come out of that one source. German and English are two separately maintained language versions, including the addresses: switching language on a project page stays on that project. Images are delivered as WebP in three sizes, and the fonts are self-hosted on the server, with no external font services. The contact form is protected by a CSRF token, a minimum fill time and a proof-of-work challenge against bots. Technically I deliberately went without a framework: the effort sits in the structure of the content, not in the foundation.
The result
A site that shows the practice's work rather than describing it, with thirteen projects and sixty images. Further projects can be added without touching the structure.
